‘Longest Night’ service set for Monday at UCC

By Travis Svihovec

The Mobridge Ministerial Association will lead a Longest Night service at 7 p.m. Monday at United Congregational Church.
The Longest Night service takes place on Dec. 21, the shortest day of the year. The event acknowledges that as the world anticipates the Christmas season, many have difficulty at this time of year.
“Some are experiencing the first Christmas season after a death. Some are struggling to get gifts for their children. Some live with anxiety and depression,” according to a news release. “It is in those places of darkness that the light of Christ shines and promises hope.”
The event is a gathering for prayer, scripture and song.
“We will light candles, hear words of comfort and forgiveness, and anticipate the light that breaks the darkness,” the release stated.
