Area residents are preparing for the homecoming of Detachment 2 of the 200th Engineering Company of the South Dakota National Guard as the unit prepares to leave Afghanistan for U.S. soil.

According to Sgt. 1st Class, Dan Heil, the unit will return to South Dakota sometime between May 7 and May 11. He expects to be notified of an exact date 72 hours before the unit returns to the state. When he is notified, the welcome home committee will contact area media and schools with that information.

The soldiers will fly into Pierre, have a welcoming ceremony in Pierre and then will travel to Mobridge in individual vehicles.
Plans are currently being made for a welcome home parade and ceremony to be held in the gym at Mobridge-Pollock High School.

The plan includes the soldiers gathering at a business east of Mobridge to ride a flatbed down Grand Crossing to Main Street, down Main Street and up to the high school.

The exact route has not been determined but will be announced at a later date.

Residents and business owners are being asked to show their support of the soldiers by decorating in red, white and blue for the week of their return.

Further details of the events will be published in an upcoming issue of the Tribune and broadcast on the networks of the Dakota Radio Group.
