McClellan takes title as Lady Tigers dominate home meet

The Lady Tigers ran away from a mostly Class B field at the Mobridge-Pollock Invitational golf meet at Oahe Hills on Monday.

“Our girls truly dominated,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “It was fun to see. For the first time in a long time, I had girls say, ‘I am doing awesome.”

Michelle McClellan outplayed everyone to win medalist honors. McClellan won a three-shot victory over teammate Emily Dale. McClellan was never out of first, shooting an opening round 43 and following up with a 44 for an 18-hole total of 87.
“Michelle really kept her composure throughout 18 holes,” said Weisbeck. “She is a great leader on our team.

Dale shot consistent golf with a pair of 45s for a second-place 90.

“Emily played well also,” said Weisbeck, “and is always pushing to be better.”

Chelsy Hoffman was tied with McClellan after nine holes, but hit some rough spots the second time around and settled for third place with a 90.

“Chelsy had an awesome opening round with a couple tough holes on the back nine,” said Weisbeck. “Overall it was still an excellent round.”

The Lady Tigers were not satisfied with taking the top three spots. Aundrea Kramer shot 98 and took sixth, while Miranda Eisemann shot 103 for seventh.

“Aundrea’s 46 on the front nine was her personal best. She was excited,” said Weisbeck. “Miranda was right near her personal best on the front nine and proved to be a competitor, earning a medal.”

It was Yellowstone Trail Conference champion Shauni Schwartz of Herreid who finally put an end to the Lady Tiger run. Schwartz struggled on front nine with a 49, but rallied with a 44 to take fourth with a 93. Callie Lawrence of Timber Lake shot 47-48-95 and nabbed fifth.

“The girls really needed this success leading into the pre-region and region,” said Weisbeck. “We truly have a shot of making waves in the weeks to come.”

The Lady Tigers will compete in the Central South Dakota Conference Meet in Faulkton on Friday before heading to Mitchell on Monday for the pre-region. The Region 3A Meet will be in Mitchell on May 13.

Kole Hawkinson of Gettysburg shot 47-44-91 to win the boys’ division. Colton Ketelhut of Miller was second and Nathan Rohrbach of Bowdle was third. Brady Vander Vorst of Herreid in eighth and Adam Weiszhaar of Bowdle in ninth, added top 10 finishes.
