Improvements across board as girls take second at region

by jay Davis

One week ago it took the Lady Tigers 416 strokes to play the pre-region at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell. Monday, the Lady Tigers were 33 strokes better. Mobridge-Pollock shot 383 to take second place at the Region 3A Golf Tournament.
“The girls did awesome,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “I am so proud of them. They improved immensely from last week’s performance. They set their sights on second and went out and did it in fine fashion.”

The team’s 416 at the pre-region had left the girls in third place, 13 strokes behind Wagner’s 403. The Lady Tigers had a goal of pushing their way past Wagner. They did not get past Wagner; they blew right past the Red Raiders. While Wagner did improve by a stroke to post a 402, that number was a full 19 strokes behind the Lady Tigers.

Michelle McClellan led the Lady Tigers with a fourth-place finish. McClellan shot 46-44-90. Chelsy Hoffman took sixth with a 45-47-92.

“Michelle and Chelsy did a good job pacing our team again,” said Weisbeck.

Miranda Eisemann was 12th with a 46-53-100, Emily Dale was 14th with a 50-51-101 and Aundrea Kramer was 17th with a 53-53-106.

Add all five girls together and the Lady Tigers picked up 47 strokes from last week. The region team total uses the top four players’ scores, accounting for the difference of making up 33 and 47 strokes.

Laying it out, McClellan picked up two stokes, Hoffman six, Kramer seven, Dale 12 and Eisemann a full 20 strokes.

“Miranda really stepped it up,” said Weisbeck. “She had a personal best on the front nine. Of all the times to get it! Emily and Aundrea each improved too, which was good to see.”

Even though Mobridge-Pollock was still 45 strokes behind region champion Parkston, the Lady Tigers still made up 35 strokes on the Trojans. Parkston was state runner-up last year and is the favorite to win it all this year.

The Trojans were superior at the region, posting the top three and five of the top six scores to win the region with a 338. Sydney Bormann won the region title with an 80. Jordan Bormann was second with an 81. Logan Wagner shot 86 for third. The Red Raiders stayed way ahead of pack with Sydney Weber shooting 91 for fifth and Taylor Bormann shooting 92 for sixth.

The next stop for the Lady Tigers is the Class A Golf Tournament at Southern Hills Golf Course in Hot Springs. The girls will play 18 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday.

“We are looking forward to the state meet,” said Weisbeck.
