Auxiliary names Girls Staters
Mobridge-Pollock High School juniors Melissa May and Lynda Martin-Goldsmith were chosen as delegates to South Dakota Girls State May 28 through June 2 at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Whitney Stroeder was chosen as alternate.
The members of Parker-Browder American Legion Post 4 Auxiliary made the selections at their May 1 meeting.
Jan Sayler was elected to another term as president of the auxiliary. She will serve a two-year term. Other officers re-elected are Jan Payer, first vice president; Francis Kraft, second vice president; Jan Wales, treasurer; Bev Selzler, secretary; Carol Lehrkamp, sergeant-at-arms; Elsie Wohl, chaplain; Eileen Gienger, Karen Godkin and Lillian Wientjes, executive board.
The charter was draped in recognition of recently deceased members Dianna Rueb, Frieda Giese, June Imberi and Vi Kramer.
Wohl and Alvina Dobler will lay the wreaths for the Memorial Day service. Wales will take care of cemetery flowers. The men of Post 4 will be in charge of the July 4 parade float.
Poppy Day is May 24. Eileen Gienger will organize workers. The poppy poster, poem and essay contests were judged.
Plans are being made for Beef ‘n Fun Day Breakfast on Main on Sept. 8. The group voted not to hold the holiday fair that had tentatively been planned for October.
The auxiliary spent time planning for the welcome home ceremonies for Det. 2 of the South Dakota National Guard’s 200th Engineering Co. The auxiliary presented the troops with T-shirts and thank-you cards.
The group also planned for a party at the nursing home, teacher appreciation week and awards day.
