Vander Wal loved reading, farming and visiting with family


Lorraine H. Vander Wal, 81, Mobridge, formerly of Pollock, died June 26, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Mobridge. Funeral Services were held at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Floyd Haan officiating.  Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock, under the direction of Myers Funeral Home, Linton, N.D.

Lorraine was born July 8, 1930 on a farm near Pollock, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Schmaltz) Weber.   She attended country school.  Lorraine married David Vander Wal on December 21, 1952 in Westfield, N.D.  Following their marriage, they lived and farmed north of Pollock. They retired and moved into Pollock.  David died June 30, 1994.  Lorraine lived in Pollock until she entered the care center in Mobridge on April 6, 2007.  She died June 26, 2012 at the care center.  She enjoyed reading, helping on the farm and visiting with family and friends.  She was a member of the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church.  She is survived by a son, James Vander Wal of Pollock;  a daughter and son-in-law:  Cindy and Andrew “Junior” Fjeldheim, Pollock, SD; five grandchildren:  Ron (Tiffany) Vander Wal, Kari (Jeremy) Johnson, Lee Vander Wal, Marie (Brian) Logan and Susanna Vander Vorste; four great-grandchildren:  Caleb, Cameron, Kyler and David A.; one brother and sister-in-law:  Henry and Myrna Weber of Pollock.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Bertha Krueger.
