Selby Teeners win region championship

Selby earned a trip to state by taking first place at the Teener 14 and under regional in Clear Lake on Friday.
After beating Oldham-Ramona-Rutland, Volga and Groton in the first three rounds, Selby was in the championship undefeated in the double elimination tournament. Volga fought its way back to the title round and made it a one game playoff for the title after beating Selby 11-1 in game one. The Walworth County boys regrouped after the loss and outscored Volga 17-12 in game two to claim the region title.
The State 14 and under Teener Tournament will be played in Mt. Vernon on July 27 through 29. Selby will play Parkston in the opening round at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
With the high cost of winning hitting the Teener team, there is some fundraising going on to help defray costs. The players are selling pizzas and collecting donations. Head coach Rich Fiedler can be contacted at 850-8600 or Al Bohle can be contacted at 848-0827. Anyone who knows one of the players can contact them too.
