Steph Gemar of Mobridge won the discus throw at the USATF Region 8 Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis., on July 7 and 8.
Gemar won the intermediate girls region title with a top throw of 128 feet, 6 inches. Her winning toss was nine feet better than second place.
The Mobridge-Pollock junior added a second-place finish in the hammer throw where she went 100-9. Lauren Doeschot of Omaha, Neb., won the title with a throw of 113-4.
With the region championship and runner-up finish, Gemar qualified for the 2012 USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md.
Gemar did not make the trip as the time between the hammer throw and discus is five days and would have made it too long of a week for Gemar and her family.
She also took ninth in the shot put with a top throw of 30-9.75.
Steph is the daughter of Ron and Bonnie Gemar.
