Pheasant Drive-In scheduled to reopen

The Pheasant Drive-In movie theater is expected to reopen as early as this weekend following the completion of repairs

to the screen, which was torn off in a storm last month.

In June, winds reaching speeds in excess of 75 mph tore off the screen of the 52-year-old outdoor theatre and also da

maged other Mobridge buildings including Lucky’s Gas N’ More. North Central Steel Systems has been contracted to repair the screen, which according to owner Ron Maier, is nearing completion and Robert Carlson is expected to finish preparing and painting the surface as early as this weekend.

“If everything goes according to plan,” said Maier, “we will be open Friday night playing ‘The Amazing Spider-man.’”

Maier cautioned that repairs could take longer, but at the latest the repairs will be completed in July.

The original screen was composed of heavy fiberboard and, over time, patched with particle board. The screen is being upgraded to a heavier gauge steel, which should ensure that the Pheasant Drive-In will be able to withstand winds of equal velocity to the storm that caused it damage again.
