David Jensen won a three-hole playoff to claim first place at the Mobridge-Pollock Invite, held Monday at Oahe Hills Golf Course.
Jensen opened with an even par 36, but dropped six strokes with a 42 on the back nine, which left him tied with Connor Preston of Aberdeen Central, who shot 41-37-78. Jensen prevailed with a winning shot on the third extra hole.
“David Jensen had an awesome performance,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “He not only shot his personal best on the front with a 36, the 78 overall was his personal best round as well. David had lots of confidence and was clicking on all cylinders. The three-hole playoff was a great experience for him in the future.”
Tyler Villbrandt took third with a 42-41-83.
“Tyler played very consistent,” said Weisbeck. “I was satisfied with his performance, but he and I know he has better rounds in the bag.”
The Aberdeen Central golfers crowded together to claim spots four through six before a pair of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte players shot into the top 10. Nolan Keckler and Scott Laundreaux shot matching 88s to take seventh and eighth, respectively. Keckler took seventh with a better back nine, shooting 46-42 to Laundreaux’s 43-45.
Eric Looyenga struggled on the back nine, but stayed alive with ninth place to give the Tigers three, top-10 finishes. Looyenga shot 42-49-91.
“Eric played a good front nine, but fell off a few strokes on the back nine,” said Weisbeck. “He will learn and improve from that.”
The junior varsity Tigers joined the older players on the course and had a tournament of their own.

Carson Keller won the inter-team meet with a 101. He nudged past Stone Jensen who also shot 101, but Keller had the better back nine.
“Our younger boys had a fun day,” said Weisbeck. “The talent of our junior high boys shows that Tiger golf has a lot of potential in the years to come.”
The Tiger golfers will be in full swing this week. They will compete in the Milbank Invitational on Thursday before returning home to Oahe Hills to host the Big Dakota Conference Meet on Tuesday.
