After the Lady Tigers had beaten Herreid-Selby Area 2-0 to won the Mobridge-Pollock Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday, the Wolverines exacted revenge by racing past the Lady Tigers 3-1 in Selby on Monday.
Mobridge-Pollock handed Herreid-Selby its first loss on Saturday and the Wolverines returned favor, dropping the Lady Tigers from the undefeated ranks with the Monday win.
“We played worse and they played better,” said coach Keri Bolduan. “It was a good road challenge for us early in the year. They were dominant at the net.”
The Lady Tigers came out playing well and took the first set 25-21, but it was all Wolverines after that. Herreid-Selby swept the next three sets, winning 25-15, 25-16 and 25-20.
Herreid-Selby Area got huge nights from Haylee Biel and Shauni Schwartz. Biel was 45 of 55 hitting with 19 kills and added 3.5 blocks. Schwartz was 32 of 35 with 11 kills. McKenzie Frank kept the girls busy with 38 assists.
Mobridge-Pollock answered with 35 kills. Kady Pinney and Ellie Rabenberg led the offense 10 kills each. Pinney was 14 of 17 and Rabenberg was 11 of 17. Callie Slater put the girls in position with 31 assists on 71 of 71 setting.
The serving was counterbalanced with the Lady Tigers hitting six aces and the Wolverines hitting five. Ariel Bieber led Mobridge-Pollock with two. McKenzie Frank led Herreid-Selby Area with three.
Abbey Fjeldheim led the Wolverine defense with a match-leading 26 digs. Maranda Wagner led the Lady Tigers with 15 digs. Kayleigh Henderson and Bieber defended the net with four and three blocks, respectively.

Groton Area
The Lady Tigers dropped the first three points of the night, then turned things around to muscle past Groton Area 3-0 at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gymnasium on Tuesday. Mobridge-Pollock won 25-20, 25-15, 25-22.
“We started slow and played a little flat at times,” said Bolduan. “We just had to remind the girls that they had to keep their feet moving.”
After four matches on Saturday and another on Monday, the Lady Tigers were not always at the their best, and were playing without senior hitter Ariel Bieber, who suffered an ankle injury on Monday. While the Lady Tigers were in full control, the weariness of the four-day stretch showed up late in the match. Leading 24-16 in the third set, the Lady Tigers surrendered seven straight points to Groton Area before the visitors missed long on a serve to end the match.
Rabenberg, Pinney and Henderson split the offense with a combined 22 kills. Rabenberg had eight, while Pinney and Henderson had seven each. Pinney led a 15-ace attack with seven. Slater spread the ball around with 27 assists.
Wagner led the defense in back, while Henderson and Aundrea Kramer stuffed the net. Wagner had 15 digs. Henderson and Kramer had four blocks each.
Camille Sippel led Groton Area with nine kills and two aces. Erica Schuster had three blocks. Savanna Larson had a match-leading 19 digs.
