Lady Tigers take third at CSDC Tournament

The Lady Tigers lost to Chamberlain in the semifinals for the second straight week, but rallied to beat Highmore-Harrold and take third place at the Central South Dakota Conference Tournament at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gymnasium on Saturday.
Winning the third-place match did not come easy for the Lady Tigers. The Pirates matched them nearly point-for-point the entire way. The win was a 2-0 sweep, but control was not established until late in set two. The Lady Tigers won 29-27, 25-22.
Net offense proved to be the difference as Mobridge-Pollock had 27 kills to 16 for Highmore-Harrold.
All-tourney team member Kady Pinney led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills on 15 of 20 hitting. Ellie Rabenberg and Kayleigh Henderson backed her up with a combined 12 kills. Henderson defended the net with five blocks.
Callie Slater distributed the ball with 20 assists and 60 of 60 setting. Maranda Wagner led the backcourt defensive effort with 12 digs and led serving with an 11 for 12 match.
Highmore-Harrold stayed close with a strong net defense. The Pirates had 14 blocks, led by Michaela Rinehart with seven. Tyuann Hamlin led the offense with 10 kills on 38 of 41 hitting. Kacie McCauley led the defense with 11 digs.
The Lady Tigers and Chamberlain fought back and fourth for three sets before Chamberlain pulled away for the win. The Cubs opened the battle with a 25-22 win. Mobridge-Pollock fought back for a 25-21 win in set two. The deciding set was close until Chamberlain took control with a run and then pulled away for a 25-16 win.
The Lady Tigers struggled a bit in the opening round where it took three sets to put away Potter County. The Lady Tigers won decisively 25-16 in the first set and 25-15 in the rubber set, but struggled and lost 26-24 in the middle set.
Warner won the tournament for the fourth straight year. The two-time defending state champions dominated the field, surrendering a mere 41 points in three matches. They destroyed Chamberlain 25-4, 25-7 in the championship after walloping Highmore-Harrold 25-5, 25-10 in the semifinals and Faulkton Area 25-5, 25-10 in the opening round.
Sully Buttes defeated Miller 25-22, 25-23 for fifth place and Potter County beat Faulkton Area 25-12, 20-25, 25-17 in the seventh-place title.
