With height and revenge on the their side, the Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers took momentum and control in beating the Lady Tigers 3-1 at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gymnasium on Tuesday.
After losing twice to the Lady Tigers last season, including in the third-place match at the State A tournament, the Lady Cavaliers exacted some revenge by beating the Lady Tigers 24-26, 25-22, 25-16, 25-5.
Mobridge-Pollock led most of the way and won the first set 26-24. The Lady Tigers held early leads of 15-8 and 17-11 before the Cavaliers rallied all the way back to take a 24-22 lead. The Lady Tigers answered back with four straight points to take a 1-0 lead.
Set two was tight until the end. The Cavaliers went on a 5-1 run that turned a 19-18 lead into a 24-19 lead and then a 25-22 win.
The tide turned completely the Cavaliers’ way early in set three. The Lady Tigers led 7-6 when Roncalli took off on an 8-0 run that would put momentum in a green jersey the rest of the night. Roncalli went on to win set four 25-16.
By set five, the Lady Tigers were completely discombobulated and Roncalli was fully in charge. The Lady Cavaliers jumped out 7-1, raised the lead to 16-2 and then 19-5 before ending the match on a 6-0 run to win 25-5.
