Pat Palmer’s great joy was golfing with sons


Pat Palmer, 76, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Rockport, Texas.
Pat was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Oakes, N.D., to Ira W. and Marcella McNerney Blazer. She was the third oldest of 10 children. Pat graduated from Oakes High School in 1954 and then attended Valley City State College.
She married Duane Gemar in 1955 in Aberdeen. They had three sons, Duane Edward Jr. (Eddie), Ron and Marc. The family moved to Mobridge in 1965.
Pat married Jim Palmer in 1981. Pat and Jim became winter Texans in 1982.
Pat loved sports. She played softball for several years in Mobridge and golfed in women’s league for many years. Her greatest enjoyment golfing came when she got the chance to play with her sons. Lately, she spent many hours watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting events.
She is survived by sons, Ron (Bonnie) Gemar of Mobridge and Marc Gemar of Elkhorn, Neb.; two stepsons, Bart (Suzanne) Palmer of Bethesda, Md., and Jay (Jena) Palmer of Coppell, Texas; daughter-in-law, Deanna Gemar of Norman, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Kelly (Brent) Kemnitz, Timothy (Karen) Palmer, Joseph Palmer, Brant Palmer, Eric Palmer, Lauren Gemar, Fallon Gemar, Stephen Gemar, Stephanie Gemar and Emily Gemar; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Kemnitz, Jeffrey Kemnitz, Kathryn Kemnitz, Elizabeth Kemnitz, Julia Palmer, Sara Palmer and Nathan Palmer; and three brothers and one sister.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim Palmer, son Eddie Gemar, stepson Dennis Palmer, four brothers and one sister.
A memorial service is being planned for Pat and Jim Palmer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge in the near future.
