Three Mobridge-Pollock Middle School students have been chosen to participate in the South Dakota Junior Honors Choir (SDJHC) in Rapid City Jan. 18 and 19.
Ninth-grader Taylor Brekke, daughter of Bruce and Debbie Brekke of Mobridge is a third-year member of the honors choir. Jesse Roshau, an eight-grader and a second-year member, is the daughter of Joe and Heidi Roshau of Mobridge and being named to the choir for his first year is seventh-grader grader Brady Greger, son of Jerome and Traci Greger of Mobridge.
SDJHC is open to students in grades seven, eight and nine. Singers prepare a recorded audition that is sung completely a cappella (no piano accompaniment). The audition includes a major scale, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” and other selections.  In 2012 more than 500 audition CDs were submitted with 80 singers chosen for the women’s choir and 92 singers chosen for the mixed choir.
Those chosen for the choirs must learn and memorize six songs prior to the event.  They will rehearse together for one and a half days in Rapid City in preparation for the concert.
The guest conductors for the 2012-2013 SDJHC are Clayton Southwick, mixed choir, and Anella Southwick, women’s choir.
