Lady Tiger senior setter Callie Slater was named honorable mention to the Class A All-State Volleyball Team for the second straight year.

Postseason accolades have come the way of Callie Slater for the second straight year. The senior setter for the Lady Tigers was named honorable mention to the Class A All-State Volleyball team. Slater received the award after last season.
“Callie is an all-around good athlete,” said coach Keri Bolduan. She is very knowledgeable about the game and is an amazing leader. It got to the point where she was thinking the same as the coaches. She was the glue to our team.”
Slater put up great setting numbers. She was 2,168 for 2,185 (99 percent) with 661 assists. Her all-around game added 347 of 364 (95 percent) serving with 72 aces, 156 digs and 42 kills. She even took her 5’2” frame high enough to block 10 opponent shots. For her career, Slater set 4,379 for 4,421 with 1,549 assists, while adding 136 aces, 336 digs, 66 kills and 66 blocks.
But it was not only her skills on the court that made Slater an all-state caliber player, it was her innate ability to lead by voice and example.
“She worked hard in practice, always trying to improve her skills,” said Bolduan. “She did a great job of trying to keep her teammates positive when things were not going right. She was the one who always helped her teammates in so many ways.”
As a part of the Lady Tiger team that took fourth in state in 2012, and as a leader of the team that won the consolation title last year and finished sixth this year, Slater will not be an easy player to replace.
“She is a huge asset to our team and did everything we ever asked of her,” said Bolduan. “She is not only a great athlete, but an amazing young lady. She will go far and do great things after high school.”
