Dean St. John services held


Mass of Christian Burial for Dean St. John, 51, of Kenel, was held Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Kenel.
Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Dean Colby St. John, Tasunke Peta Uniyun (Paints His Horse With Fire), son of Elaine St. John (Left Hand) and the late Alvord St. John Sr., began his journey to the spirit world on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D.
Dean was born June 22, 1961, in Chamberlain and was a member of the Crow Creek Nation. He attended Standing Rock elementary and high schools, first through 11th grade. He later attended and graduated from Crow Creek High School in Stephen in May of 1980.
He then worked for the Crow Creek tribe. Dean married Jacqueline Crow. They have two children Terry and Keri St. John.
Dean is survived by his mother, Elaine of Kenel; children Terry St. John and Keri St. John; grandchildren, Terry St. John Jr., Aleeyah St. John and Justine St. John, all of Crow Creek; two sisters, Eunice St. John of Crow Creek and Lavonne (Gordon) White Bull of Long Soldier, N.D.; and brothers, Lance St. John of Kenel, Sterling (Donna) Kirby St. John of Kenel, and Verl and Tad Walking Elk of Kenel; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
