Wolverines, Braves beat Lady Tigers

There was no present of a win under the tree for the Lady Tigers over the holiday break as they were beaten 74-20 by Herreid-Selby Area at the Rotary Classic on Thursday and 63-25 by Cheyenne-Eagle Butte in Eagle Butte on Saturday.

Herreid-Selby Area
The undefeated Wolverines started slow before running away from the Lady Tigers. Mobridge-Pollock was down just 5-4 midway through the first quarter before the Wolverines went on a 19-0 run that ended in the second quarter with Herreid-Selby Area leading 24-4. The game was decided during that run as the Wolverines led 39-9 at the half.
The tough Herreid-Selby Area defense held the Lady Tigers to two field goals in each of the first three quarters without letting the Lady Tigers take a single trip to the free throw line. The Lady Tigers put three field goals in the hoop in the fourth quarter to reach the 20-point mark.
Aundrea Kramer led the Lady Tigers with seven points and four rebounds. Chelsy Hoffman scored four points and grabbed four boards. Cassi Heumiller scored four points, Maranda Wagner three and Kaitlin Good Shield two.
Shauni Schwartz led the Wolverines with 14 points and four rebounds, doing all of her damage in the first half. Kelsey Quaschnick knocked down 13 points. Kendra Thorstenson and Abbey Fjeldheim added 12 points each. Haylee Biel had a game-leading five rebounds.

The Braves towered over the Lady Tigers with three six-footers and took advantage by scoring inside for a 63-25 win.
Center Marquel Shepherd hit point-blanker after point-blanker,scoring all 19 of her points in the first half as the Braves jumped out to a 36-11 lead at the break. The game broke open when the Braves went on an 18-1 run in the second quarter.
The trend continued in the second half when 5’11” Cassidy Hollow Horn scored all 13 of her points. The inside dominance led to Caleb Shepherd scoring 10 points, while Nelly Dupris and K’Lona Lofton scored seven points each.
Aundrea Kramer led the Lady Tigers with 11 points. Cassi Heumiller scored all six of her points from the free throw line. Chelsy Hoffman scored five, Kylee Wagner two and Taylor Brekke one.

Weekend games
The Lady Tigers will get two more cracks at their first win this weekend. Mobridge-Pollock goes to Miller on Friday and comes home to host Groton Area on Saturday.
Miller holds a 24-16 edge in the all-time series with the Lady Tigers and won both matchups last year. The Rustlers beat the Lady Tigers 54-47 in the regular season and 55-50 in the Region 6A championship game.
With three wins in a row, the Lady Tigers lead Groton 16-13 in the all-time series. Mobridge-Pollock beat Groton 47-41 in Groton last season.
