Rod Schilling was Sunday cook
Funeral services for Rodney C. Schilling, 54, were held Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
Burial followed at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.
Rod died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.
Rodney Calvin Schilling was born June 1, 1958, in Mobridge to Calvin and Dora (Kappel) Schilling. He received his education in Selby, graduating from Selby High School. He then continued his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen.
Following college, Rod worked in Selby until being united in marriage with Jocelyn Keller in April of 1984. From the union the couple was blessed with three sons. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1991. Rod worked for Schwan’s food service from 1991 to 2002 and had been employed with Mountain View Marketing since 2005.
Rod enjoyed spending time with his sons, golfing, fishing, running, gardening and yard work. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics fan. Above all he loved his boys, especially cooking for them on Sunday evenings. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who will be dearly missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons, Carson Schilling, Spencer Schilling and Connor Schilling, all of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Leila Barta of Gayville; mother, Dora Schilling of Selby; seven siblings, Karen Kuhns of Huron, Vickie (Harlan) Gates of Aberdeen, Pam Rhodes of Newton, Kan., Jay (Vicki) Schlling of Rapid City, Scott Schilling of Selby, Jolene (Brad) Lappe of Rapid City, and Charles (Vicki) Schilling of Selby; sister-in-law, Pam Schilling of Black Hawk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Schilling, and one brother, Myron Schilling.
