John Rathke, 98, of Pierre, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Golden LivingCenter.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Resurrection Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Bly officiating, followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre.
John was born June 15, 1914, in Red Wing, Minn. He grew up on a farm near Mound City with his parents John and Mary Rathke and sister Bertha (Rathke) Singer.
John married Hilda Fischer on Jan. 2, 1938. They lived on the family farm near Mound City where their three daughters Pat, Shirley and Donna were born. In 1955 they moved to Eureka where John worked for the Ford garage. They then moved to Mobridge in 1957, where John and Hilda worked at Northwestern Lutheran Academy. He then went to work for the City of Mobridge water department until he retired in 1976. In 1990 they moved to Pierre. He enjoyed fishing, cars and spending time driving around.
John is survived by his three daughters, Pat Olson of Rapid City, Shirley Becker of Pierre, and Donna (Gary) Fischer of Mobridge; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda; his parents; son-in-law, Ron Becker; grandson, David Doerr and sister, Bertha Singer.
