Members of the Bridge City Coin and Stamp Club are helping to promote Mobridge at collector conventions. The Mobridge Chamber of Commerce has provided brochures of area historical events and sites along with other promotional material. Both host and attendees at the Aberdeen All-Hobby Show in February appreciated the informational handouts. Another is being readied for the South Dakota Coin and Stamp Association Convention, April 20 and 21 in Sioux Falls. The history-related handouts make a good fit with our South Dakota collector interests.
Club members traveled on Friday, March 8 to donate numismatic books to the Selby combined city/school library. The Mobridge Coin and Stamp Club has members from that area and there were no coin-related books in that library.
Members at the March 7 meeting approved to budget $150 to purchase additional coin-related books for the A.H. Brown Public Library. These will replace books that are outdated and fill gaps in coinage history not presently in the library.
National Coin Week (NCW) is scheduled for April 21 through27 and preliminary plans were discussed. All the banks, library and Chamber of Commerce have expressed a desire to again have coin exhibits during the event. The 2013 NCW theme is the 100th Anniversary of the first issue of the buffalo nickel. Final plans on NCW contests and activities will be finalized at the April meeting. Following the meeting members held a silent auction.
The next meeting of the Bridge City Coin and Stamp Club will be on Thursday, 7 p.m., April 4 at Mobridge-Pollock High School in the community room.
