Post 4 awards Christman scholarships

By Robert Maisch

Two Mobridge-Pollock High School seniors were named as recipients of Rheiny Christman Scholarships when Parker-Browder American Legion Post 4 met on May 1.
Americanism chairman John Riley announced that Zachary Dockter, son of Dr. Craig and Kathy Dockter, and Taten Rau, son of Ken and Lana Rau, were chosen for the honor.
Members learned that Virgil Binfet became commander and Justin Loesch vice commander of the Walworth County American Legion District at elections held in Bowdle on April 19. Memorial Day ceremony plans are being made for both cemeteries and Golden LivingCenter. The group is installing flags at each veteran’s grave and finalizing arrangements for a speaker. Binfet has prepared a booklet which provides layouts of the cemeteries and denotes the location of each veteran marker.
Members were reminded of upcoming events. The 95th Annual American Legion 2013 State Convention will be held in Rapid City June 6 through 9. The annual Veterans Military and Lever Action Shoot sponsored by the Sage Brush Rifle and Pistol Club is June 9.
The next Post 4 meeting is June 5. The meeting will follow a 7 p.m. dinner.
