The A.H. Brown Public Library and the Bridge City Coin and Stamp Club held their third National Coin Week Contest during National Coin Week, April 21 through 27.
The contest this year had a slight twist to the coloring contests of the past two years. This year participants received a blank wooden coin, and followed the simple rules to create a coin of their own. Bridge City Coin and Stamp Club members Lyle Walth, Charlotte Anderson, and Robert and Cheryl Maisch met at the library to judge the 25 preschool through second grade and 17 third through fifth grade entries.
The winners in the preschool through second-grade category are:
• Third: Maddie Bruguier (first grade), prize – 2002 Proof Quarter Mississippi, Buffalo Nickel and 2005-D Westward Journey with Buffalo Nickel.
• Second: Faith Heil (preschool), prize – Sacagawea Dollar, Buffalo Nickel, and 2005-D Westward Journey with Buffalo Nickel.
• First: Hayden Reichert (kindergarten), prize – “Lots and Lots of Coins,” a book by Margarette S. Reid, Buffalo Nickel, 2005-D Westward Journey with Buffalo Nickel.
The winners in the third grade through fifth-grade category are:
• Third: Evan Waldner (fourth grade), prize – 2007 Proof Quarter Wyoming, Buffalo Nickel, and 2005-D Westward journey with Buffalo Nickel.
• Second: Kayla Blankartz (third grade), prize – 1943 P-D-S Steel Cents, Buffalo Nickel, and 2005-D Westward Journey with Buffalo Nickel.
• First: Kamron Pearman (fourth grade), prize – “Lots and Lots of Coins” a book by Margarette S. Reid, Buffalo Nickel, 2005-D Westward Journey with Buffalo Nickel.
