While they could not keep up with Parkston, the Lady Tigers left the rest of the field in the dust to take second place at the Region 3A Golf Tournament at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre on Monday.
“It’s always awesome to bring home the hardware,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “My hats off to Parkston. They are arguably the best team in state at any level. What an experience for our girls to get to compete against them.”
All four Lady Tigers finished in the top 11. Chelsy Hoffman led the way by breaking up the Parkston contingent with a fifth-place finish. The other three girls came in a row with Emily Dale taking ninth, Aundrea Kramer taking 10th and Miranda Eisemann taking 11th.
With Hoffman shooting 87, Dale 94 and Kramer and Eisemann 95s, the Lady Tigers shot 371. They were well behind the 295 Parkston shot, but also comfortably ahead of the 427 third-place Winner shot.
“The region always adds an extra element of pressure on the girls,” said Weisbeck. “Through this they still played well. Having four in the top 11 is always a great feat!”
Parkston was in a league all by itself with all five Trojans shooting top six scores. Only Hoffman was strong enough to break up the clean sweep. Parkston’s top two golfers broke 70 and another broke 80.
The Lady Tigers will tee it up at the Girls’ State A Golf Tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank on Monday and Tuesday.
Weisbeck said his youthful Lady Tigers have an outside chance of placing.
“It’s nice to have that opportunity,” said Weisbeck. “It will be a great experience for them to go to Milbank and see what they can do.”
