A season that started in snow and ended in rain, also ended with the Lady Tigers earned sixth place at the Girls’ State A Golf Tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank on Monday.
The tournament was cut short by the weather. After 100 girls played in rain on day one, the course proved to be too waterlogged on Tuesday. Day two was called because of weather and course conditions after just a couple of holes had been played.
The harsh weather upgrades the job done by the young Lady Tigers. With freshman Emily Dale earning all-state honors, the Lady Tigers earned the sixth-place plaque by shooting a 412. Parkston and Sioux Falls Christian were 50 strokes better than the field. The Lady Tigers were right in the mix after that. Third place Hot Springs was just 10 strokes ahead of Mobridge-Pollock with a 402.
“The girls persevered out there’s no question about that,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “They had great attitudes. They weren’t complainers. They were competitors.”
Dale fired a 49-47-96 to finish in a tie for 18th place and earn all-state honors as a state tournament medalist.
All four Lady Tigers finished in the top 40. Chelsy Hoffman tied for 25th with 51-49-100. Aundrea Kramer tied for 36th with 51-56-107 and Miranda Eisemann tied for 40th with 51-58-109.
“The girls played really well in the rain during the first nine,” said Weisbeck.
With a freshman and three sophomores, taking sixth in state is just a steppingstone for this Lady Tigers team.
“It’s just the beginning for them,” said Weisbeck. “They are young and they are tournament-tested.”
Tournament favorite Parkston edged Sioux Falls Christian 350 to 353 for the team title.
Cassidy Vollmer of Hot Springs handled the rain the best to win the state title with an 82.
