Timber Lake senior Kristie Mettler put the finishing touch on a brilliant high school career by being named the Outstanding Field Performer at the State B Track and Field Meet in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday.
Metter won two titles and nearly a third. She won the long and triple jumps, prompting her outstanding performer award. She won both events by defeating a fellow Region 8B athlete.
She won the long jump by hitting the sand at 16 feet, 8.25 inches. Taylor Trohkimoinen of Newell was second at 16-7.
Metter went 34-8 to win the triple jump. Sierra Stugelmeyer of Harding County landed at 33-10.25 to finish second.
Metter was edged by a mere hundredth of a second in the 100-meter dash. Mettler and Sierra Stotz of Eureka-Bowdle were neck and neck before Stotz won on the lean with a time of 12.71 seconds. Mettler came in 12.72. Right with them was Christy Mogck of Scotland who took third at 12.73.
In accumulating 28 points, Mettler singlehandedly led the Lady Panthers to a tie for seventh in team standings.
