Brandi Martian of Mobridge will be among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of South Dakota at the 2013 state pageant Aug. 16 through 18 in Pierre.
Brandi is the daughter of Dale and Lin Martian of Mobridge. She will be a junior at Mobridge-Pollock High School this fall. Brandi is active in volleyball, cheerleading and track. In her free time she enjoys riding and training horses, babysitting and spending time at the river with her family and friends. After she graduates from high school she plans to attend the University of South Dakota and become an optometrist.
Brandi competed in the 2011 Miss Teen pageant and received the poise and personality award.
The winner of the Miss Teen of South Dakota pageant will receive a $1,000 scholarship, award plaque, medallion of excellence and sash. She will also be eligible to compete for the title of Miss Teen of America, additional scholarships, awards and prizes.
Candidates at the state level will be judged in six categories, which are scholastic record, achievement and service to school and community, general awareness written test, personal development of talents and skills, personality projection in formal wear, and interview.
The state pageant finals will be held at 2 p.m on Aug. 18 at the Best Western Ramkota ballroom in Pierre. The event is open to the public and tickets are available at the door.
