Gladys Dornbush Seymour, 73, of Pollock, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of July 3, 2013, while a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Gladys Ilene Nieuwsma, the oldest daughter of Willie and Bertha (Droog) Nieuwsma, was born Aug. 6, 1939, on the family farm southwest of Hull, N.D. She attended country school and graduated from Strasburg High School in Strasburg, N.D. After she completed Ellendale State Teachers College, she taught for two years at the Nieuswma country school.
Gladys married Harlen Gene Dornbush on June 10, 1959, at the Hull Christian Reformed Church. Following their marriage they lived and farmed southeast of Westfield, N.D., and raised their children, Calvin, Bonnie, Roxanne, Jean and Derrick.
Harlen died on March 25, 1983.
Gladys and Derrick moved to Pollock in 1990, which is where she lived until her death.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the Fin ‘n Feather, as a waitress in the café and as the postmistress relief at the U.S. Post Office, all in Pollock.
She married Lowell Seymour on May 17, 1999.
While Gladys was a member of the Hope Reformed Church in Westfield she taught Sunday school and served as a leader in Kuria Klub. Later, as a member of Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, she was involved in Women in the Church and Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed Wednesday morning Stonecroft Bible Coffee.
Gladys loved spending time with her family. Her favorite time was when her kids and grandkids were together. She loved to read, especially her Bible. Her special talent was sewing.
Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, Lowell of Pollock; her two sons and three daughters and their families: Calvin and Carolyn Dornbush of Woodbury, Minn., and their children, Megan and Michael; Bonnie and Randy Van Beek of Wilmot and their children, Gail, Jessica and Chad Coon, Daryl, Ashley, Marlayna and Pierceson; Roxanne and Chuck Ochsner of North Las Vegas, Nev., and their children, Kyle and Brian; Jean and Mark Hollaar of Fargo, N.D., and their children, Nicholas, Daniel and Joshua; and Derrick Dornbush of Garden Plain, Kan. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Franklin and Gracey Nieuwsma of Hull; Willard Nieuwsma of Pollock; Helen Huizenga of Edmonds, Wash.; LaVonne and Jim Rossow of Buffalo, Wyo.; and Vivian and Curt Vander Vorst of Hull; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Nieuwsma of Sioux Center, Iowa; her many nieces and nephews; Lowell’s children and their families: David and Lisa Seymour of Walla Walla, Wash., and children, Justin and Tasha; Kathy and Rob Tozier of Fairfax, Va., and their children, Anne and Philip; Jon and Christa Seymour of Zumbrota, Minn., and their children, Olivia, Madelin and Gavin.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harlen; her parents; her brother, Edwin Nieuwsma; her sister, Carol Crawford Neukircher; her brothers-in-law, Bob Huizenga and Bob Crawford; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Nieuwsma; and her niece Natalie Nieuwsma.
