MHS grads win Couples Tourney

A pair of Mobridge High School graduates returned to their hometown to win the Northside Flowers/DQ Couples Alternate Shot and Best Ball Golf Tournament at Oahe Hills Golf Course on Saturday.
Former Tigers Bobbi (Scherr) Whitmore, of Rockledge, Fla., and Bill Scherr of Glenview, Ill., won the tournament by four strokes. The brother-sister combo dominated the field with an even par 72.
Gwen Faehnrich and nephew Brady Faehnrich shot 76 to take second place.
The husband and wife duo of Denny and Jane Bachman took third place, one shot back with a 77.
Gary Oaks and Gail Klug of Gettysburg captured the second flight with a 78. Mobridge golfers took the next two spots. Bill and Peggy Schell shot 80 for second place. Mike and Staci Keller shot 82 for third.
Local golfers took first and third in the second flight. Pat Lawrence and Scott Ulmer teamed to win the flight with an 80. Kevin Schaefbauer and Jane Mertz snared third with a 93. Gettysburg golfers Rod Perman and Erica Rath sneaked in between, shooting 88 for second place.
Twenty-three teams competed in the eighth edition of the tournament.
