The Tigers had three top 20 finishes at the Big Dakota Conference Cross Country Meet in Chamberlain on Thursday.
ReAnne Hanley was the top Mobridge-Pollock runner. She finished 16th with a time of 17 minutes, 50 seconds. Mary Martin was 19th at 18:19.
Sam Weleba finished 19th in the boys’ race with a time of 18:52. Justin Nobles came in 23rd at 19:12. In their first varsity meet, Justin and Aaron Jacobs finished 27th and 31st, respectively. Justin ran a 19:26, while Aaron ran a 20:06.
“The Big Dakota is always a useful measuring tool for me as it is the same course as regions and all of our region opponents are there,” said coach Stephen Hettick. “After factoring out the non-region runners at the meet, I have four runners that would be very close to making the cut to go to the state tournament. Knowing this, it will be exciting to see how they push themselves to improve, knowing they are close to that cut line.”
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte won both team championships.
The boys edged Miller and Todd County. With Xavier Norris and Dillon Miner taking first and second, the Braves scored 25 points. Miller scored 30 and Todd County scored 32. Caleb Lebeau joined his teammates in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish.
Chloe Bartels of Winner taking first place could not stop the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte girls from winning the title. The girls scored 19 points to beat Todd County’s 23 points. Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle led the Braves with a second-place finish. Ivy Norris, D’Aryn Lends His Horse and Ranger Gunville came in 7-8-9, respectively.
The Tigers have a busy week with three races. They are running in the Faulkton Invitational today (Wednesday). They will race in Hoven on Saturday and Lemmon on Monday.
