Alby Twete, 92, dies
Funeral services for Alby Twete, 92, of Selby, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby.
Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Alby passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the Dougherty House in Sioux Falls.
Alby Viola Twete was born Aug. 15, 1921, to Clarence and Ellen (Pearson) Nater in New Effington. She attended Sisseton High School, graduating in 1939. Following high school, Alby helped out on the farm.
She married Allie Twete on Aug. 31, 1941. Alby traveled with her husband while he was in the service to Louisiana and Kentucky. After WWII, Allie was honorably discharged. They then farmed in Campbell County until 1953 when they moved to a farm northeast of Selby. They retired in 1987 and moved into Selby where she has since resided.
Alby was a member of Norway Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday school superintendent and taught at Bethany Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed card parties, quilting and embroidering. She also volunteered at the nursing home, bringing goodies to the residents. She enjoyed walking, helping on the farm, gardening and canning vegetables.
Alby is survived by one son, Robert (Betty) Twete of Dawson, Minn.; two daughters, Karen Crawford of Mesa, Ariz., and Rose Twete of Overland Park, Kan.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Ernest and Laurence Nater, and one grandson, Derek Twete.
