Herreid-Selby Area shuts out Tri-State

Herreid-Selby Area got on top early and rolled to a 42-0 win over Tri-State in the opening round of the Class 9A playoffs in Selby on Tuesday.
The Wolverines took the lead midway through the first quarter when Logan Schaefbauer went 34 yards to the end zone. They took a two-touchdown lead when Cooper Schaefbauer scored from nine yards out with just less than a minute left in the opening quarter.
The next four Wolverine touchdowns included just one from an offensive snap. Austin Iverson scored on a 59-yard run in the second quarter and then took the second half kickoff back 80 yards for another touchdown. Logan Schaefbauer and Tyrel Ott picked off passes and returned them to the end zone, Schaefbauer in the second quarter and Ott in the fourth quarter.
The Wolverines stuck mostly to the ground, running for 256 yards. Iverson ran for 163 yards on just 12 carries. Logan Schaefbauer added 85 yards.
Ott led the defense with 10 tackles. Dakota Thorstenson had eight tackles and two sacks. Cade Opheim added six tackles and a fumble recovery.
Tri-State got 75 yards rushing from Dexter Lick, 53 yards passing from Mathew Weiser and 49 yards receiving from Taylor Campbell
Herreid-Selby Area advances to the quarterfinals and a rematch with YTC rival Potter County. The 8-1 Battlers defeated Corsica-Stickney by a matching 42-0 in the first round. Potter County scored with six seconds left to beat the Wolverines 15-12 in early October.
