Lady Tiger season ends with Miller loss

The Lady Tigers’ quest for a fifth straight state tournament ended with a 3-0 loss to Miller in the Region 6A Volleyball Tournament in Miller on Thursday.
The Rustlers downed the Lady Tigers 25-18 in set one. They really took over for a 25-7 win in set two and then put an end to the Mobridge-Pollock season with a 25-18 win in set three.
“Overall, I am very proud of our girls and the season we had,” said coach Keri Bolduan. “This is a great group of girls that worked well as a team. We did not meet our goal of making the state tournament, but we did have two very tough teams to make it through to make it to state.”
Bolduan said the girls had a tough time getting to Miller attacks.
“Our front row was a little slow on getting the block up and together,” said Bolduan. “It is nice to get touches on the ball to slow it down for our defense.”
Miller finished the contest with 37 kills. The Lady Tigers countered with just 21 kills.
“We were not very aggressive at the net with our hitting,” said Bolduan. “We played a little tentative. I would have liked to see more passes going to our setters. Our setters did a lot of moving around to get to the pass, which limited our offense.”
The Lady Tiger service game, which has been dominant at times this season, was consistent, but did not overwhelm the Rustlers. Bolduan said the girls served well with only four errors, but were not as aggressive as they have been in the past and had just two aces.
Ellie Rabenberg led the Lady Tiger offense with 10 kills on 25 of 31 hitting. Kylee Wagner added four kills. Becca Martin and Cassi Heumiller combined for 100 of 100 setting with 18 assists. Maranda Wagner led the defense with 17 digs. Rabenberg had nine and Aundrea Kramer had seven.
Kristen Peterka led Miller with 16 kills on 39 of 42 hitting. Denae Schlechter set 60 of 60 with 33 assists. Jamie Mentzer led the defense with 20 digs.
