Beatha “Etta” Holzwarth

Beatha “Etta” Holzwarth, 92, of Pierre, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. Her beloved husband Jacob was waiting with Jesus to greet her.
Memorial services were held Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Community Bible Church in Pierre.
Burial was at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre.
Etta Ackerman was born on Aug. 19, 1921, in Campbell County to John and Beatha (Buckenberger) Ackerman. She was the youngest of nine children.
Etta grew up on the family farm where her older sisters doted on her. This started a bond between them that lasted a lifetime. Many were the times that they would get together and be found laughing and talking until the early hours of the morning.
It was on this farm that she got the attention of a certain farm boy named Jacob. He would travel across the pasture to visit his “pretty little brown-haired girl” and bring her Juicy Fruit gum. This romance would become a marriage on Nov. 4, 1939, and brought them four children and 71 happy and fulfilling years together.
When she was 13, she attended a small church revival service.  That night started a relationship with her Lord and Savior that lasted the rest of her life.  The Bible tells us how we are to live our lives, but how equally important it is to finish well.  Etta finished well.  Her many years as a prayer warrior gave her family endless comfort.  She truly prayed without ceasing.
After her children were older, Etta became a nurse aide and cared for the residents at the Mobridge nursing home for 18 years.  Everyone loved her. She was devoted to the people she served.
After retirement, Etta and Jake moved to Pierre to be closer to family. Jake and Etta were part of a small group of people to start Community Bible Church in Pierre and were known as “grandma” and “grandpa” to everyone in that group.
Etta’s last several years were spent at Maryhouse where much love was given and received.
Etta was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jake, infant son Jerry Lee, her parents, four sisters and four brothers, and one infant grandson, Heath.
She is survived by two sons, Jim (Judy) Holzwarth and Don (Sandi) Holzwarth;  one daughter, Ardella (Ralph) Byre; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
