Funeral service for Alvin “Shorty” Aman, 81, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24.
Alvin died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Sanford Regional Hospital, Aberdeen.
Alvin “Shorty” Aman, son of Gustave and Mary (Friez) Aman, was born on Dec. 30, 1932, in McLaughlin. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.
Alvin enlisted in the United States Army on Jan. 19, 1951, and served during the Korean Conflict.
He was united in marriage to Violet Geigle on Feb. 8, 1953, in Springfield, Tenn.  Alvin received his honorable discharge on Jan. 21, 1954.
Alvin went on to attend barber school in Fargo, N.D. Alvin and Violet began making their home in Pollock and opened the first barber shop in this area. In 1959, Alvin and Violet moved to Aberdeen where they owned and operated Super City Barber Shop. Alvin and Violet worked side by side for many years, retiring in 1998. Alvin’s beloved wife Violet died on June 23, 2001.  He continued to make his home in Aberdeen.
Alvin was an avid outdoorsmen and loved to hunt, fish and camp. He liked snowmobiling and was a member of the Driftbusters snowmobile Club.  Alvin was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Alvin cherished his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Grateful for having shared Alvin’s life are his daughter, Pam (Curt) Schumack of Groton; son, Patrick (Lynn) Aman of Aberdeen; four granddaughters, Kristal (Brian) Koens, Kendra Angel, Sarah Aman and Jennifer Aman; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey, Sierra and Jayden Biegler, Heather, Amanda and Mitchell Koens, Bria Helmes and Syrus Burgoss; brothers, Donald (Delores) Aman of Mandan, N.D., and Larry (Darlene) Aman of Mobridge; and sisters, Delores (Larry) Ehnes of Nisland and Genny (Phil) Herkenrath, Neola, Iowa and Connie Shryock of Arizona.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, parents, stepmother Dorothy Aman, brother Milbert Aman and sisters Velma Beranek and Luella Olson.
