Mason Keller puts up a shot for two of his team-high 17 points on Thursday in Eagle Butte. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte defeated the Tigers 76-58 in the Region 6A semfinals.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte exploded with a first quarter run and held the Tigers off the rest of the way to win a 76-58 game in the Region 6A semifinals in Eagle Butte on Thursday.
After the Tigers scored the first basket of the game, the Braves turned fortune in their favor. They scored the next 11 points, and after the Tigers scored their second basket, scored 14 straight points. The 25-2 run gave the Braves a 25-4 lead that kept the Tigers trying to play catch-up the rest of the game.
“We came out with what we thought was a pretty good defensive game plan,” said coach Tim Frederick. “We were keyed in on that. Unfortunately we forgot about offense and were sloppy early on.”
The Tigers turned the ball over nine times in the first quarter.
“You have to give Cheyenne-Eagle Butte credit,” said Frederick. “Their defense was tenacious early on.”
The Tigers kept trying to come back and make it a game, but the Braves answered every challenge. Mobridge-Pollock had a 10-2 spurt in the second quarter that cut the lead to 30-17, but the Braves answered with a 10-0 run. The Tigers reeled off another 10-2 run late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter only to have the Braves push the lead back to 20 with 11 straight points.
“I was proud of the boys,” said Frederick. “They fought hard and didn’t give up. We just couldn’t get over the hump and get back in it.”
Mason Keller led the Tigers with 17 points, including 10 in the second quarter. Mitch Heumiller scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds and dished three assists. Preston Frederick scored 13 points. Jason Hill added five points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Creighton LeBeau led the Braves with a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double. He scored 11 points in the second quarter. Xavier Norris scored 17 points, passed out four assists and picked off three steals. Jeffrie Shaving added 12 points, including eight points in the first quarter.
