Creighton LeBeau puts up a shot over Joseph Newman of Tri-Valley during second round action at the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament in Sioux Falls on Friday. LeBeau scored a tournament-high 72 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Just after lunch on Saturday, the Creighton LeBeau Show aired on South Dakota Public Television.
LeBeau torched the net in the second quarter, setting up an 83-55 Cheyenne-Eagle Butte win over Pine Ridge in the seventh-place game at the Class  A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament in Sioux Falls on Saturday.
The Braves and Thorpes were in a heated 19-18 battle when LeBeau got in the zone of all zones. He started a run with a three-pointer and then hit another. After Xavier Norris scored to give the Braves a 27-20 lead, LeBeau ripped off 11 straight points, including two more threes, giving the Braves a 38-20 lead. By the time Kamden Rousseau Clown hit a basket and Wyatt Knight and Grant Kohlus hit two free throws each, the Braves had gone on a 25-2 run that turned a one-point edge into a 44-20 lead. LeBeau scored 17 points during the run.
Just to be sure momentum would stay with the Braves the rest of the game, Kohlus hit a 28-foot three-pointer at the buzzer, lifting Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to a 47-24 halftime lead.
The Braves held the Thorpes at bay the entire second half. LeBeau and Norris combined for 20 more points before leaving the game with 3:30 play and the Braves leading 75-44.
LeBeau finished with a game-high 34 points, including six three-pointers and nine of nine free throw shooting, while adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Norris added 22 points, including 12 in the second half. Kohlus and Rousseau Clown combined for another 15 points.
Jacob Dreamer led Pine Ridge with 16 points. Jacob Brown scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Ki-Jana Grey Grass added nine points.

Tri-Valley
The ball was flying through the hoop in the consolation round. The Braves found the offense that was missing in the opening round, but could not corral the Mustangs, as they were defeated 83-71 by Tri-Valley on Friday.
The Braves surpassed their opening round totals in quick order. They matched their 13 points in the first half at 3:15 of the first quarter and went past their opening round 25 points just a minute and a half into the second quarter.
But the Braves could not slow Tri-Valley, namely Brendon Boomsma. The Mustangs’ leading scorer went off late in the second quarter. The game was tied at 34-34 with 3:24 to play in the half when Boomsma lit up the net with 13 points as the Mustangs moved ahead 46-41 at the intermission.
The Braves fought back in the second half and took a 67-66 lead when LeBeau hit a three-point play with 5:55 to play. Then Boomsma got hot again, scoring eight points as part of a Tri-Valley 11-0 run that was the deciding factor in the final outcome.
After struggling in game one, Norris found his shot and led the Braves with 30 points, including 20 in the first half. He made it a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds and added six assists. LeBeau notched 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. Jeffrie Shaving scored 10 points, while Rousseau Clown rounded out the scoring with five points.
Boomsma finished with a game-high 38 points. He hit 16 field goals, four of which were three-pointers. Joseph Newman scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Connor Teel added nine points.

St. Thomas More
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was cold as ice in the opening round on Thursday, dropping a 41-25 game to St. Thomas More.
The Braves started the game hitting just one of their first 18 shots. Although they did put together a 3-4 streak late in the second quarter to draw within 14-13, the shooting did not improve in the second half. The Braves scored just six points in each of the second-half quarters as St. Thomas More pulled ahead 28-19 after three quarters and led by as much as 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Braves finished the game just nine of 37 shooting, including one of 10 from three-point range.
If time of possession were kept in basketball, it would have been as telling a statistic as the shooting percentage. St. Thomas More held the ball for as much as two minutes at a time in the second half, permitting the Braves just 15 shots from field over the final 16 minutes. After LeBeau hit the Braves’ only three-pointer with 1:59 left in the third quarter, which drew the score to 28-19, the Cavaliers held the ball for the rest of the quarter.
LeBeau led the Braves with 12 points and five rebounds. Shaving pitched in nine points and five boards. The rest of the starting five went scoreless. Norris was zero for eight from the field, but did add four assists.
St. Thomas More center Isaac Kortemeyer led the Cavaliers with 11 points and nine rebounds. Caden Skinner scored 10 points. P.J. Freidel scored seven points and dished seven assists. Jacob Henderson added five points and eight rebounds.

After scoring a tournament-high 72 points, LeBeau was named to the all-tournament team. He was joined by Preston Nordling, Jacob Giles and Trae VandeBerg of state champion Madison, Jordan Cornelius and Wyatt Youngblom of Sisseton, Tarin Smallfield and Gunnar Ensz of Tea Area, Jacob Brown of Pine Ridge, Jeron Laurenti of St. Thomas More, Spencer Hanson of Sioux Valley and Brendon Boomsma of Tri-Valley.
