Funeral services for Judy Traversie Big Eagle, 65, of Ridgeview and formerly of Rapid City, were held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Whitehorse Community Center, with Pastor Norman Blue Coat and Calvin Chapman officiating.
Music was provided by the Blue Coat Girls, Sisters In Harmony, and Daryl Whipple. Burial was at Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery, Whitehorse, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Judy entered the spirit world March 18, 2014, in Phoenix, Ariz.
Our beloved and beautiful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, Judy Grace Big Eagle, made her journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the age of 65.
She was born March 5, 1949, in White Horse, to Julia Traversie. She grew up on the Cheyenne River Reservation and spent most of her years in Pierre and Rapid City.
She is survived by and blessed with eight children, Gary Big Eagle, Jerry Big Eagle, Jody Big Eagle, Rita Stanfield, Kara Banceu, Steven McConnell, Beth Elaine Big Eagle and Heather Cook. Between the eight children are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was deeply loving and selfless, opening her heart to not just friends and family members but to anybody in need of an encouraging word. While suffering a terminal illness she stood strong and independent, managing to achieve the American dream of earning a college degree and buying a home.
Her favorite pastimes were reading, gardening, nurturing her pets and doing Sudoku puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Joyce Traversie, Janet Garreaux, Jack Jewett and Elvis Little Bear.
Thank you to God and to Judy for the memories. You will be dearly missed.
