Funeral services for Wade Chasing Hawk, 39, of Eagle Butte, where held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Rev. Matt Fallgren officiating.
Burial followed at Chasing Hawk Cemetery, rural Red Scaffold, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Wade entered the spirit world on March 25, 2014, at the Eagle Butte I.H.S. Hospital surrounded by family.
Wade Lewis Chasing Hawk, Tatanka Unshika (Poor Buffalo), was born on Oct. 20, 1974, in Eagle Butte to Cecil and Lois (Makes Trouble) Chasing Hawk.
Wade attended school in Takini, graduating in 1994. He was accepted at Western Dakota Vo Tech, however, he was unable to attend due to illness.
Wade enjoyed the ranching and rodeo lifestyle, rodeoing all four years in high school. He competed in bull riding and team roping and was the regional champion bull rider in 1991. He was interested in anything that involved the ranching lifestyle. He braided, often making hackamores and rope wreaths. Wade always helped local ranchers and broke horses along with his favorite horse, Trigger.
Wade eventually became involved in ranching with the help of Jim Butler, a longtime family friend, and also ranched with Russell Johnson. He started ranching with horses, buffalo and eventually cattle. Wade enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He attended the Catholic Church in Red Scaffold. Wade will be missed by his family, friends and his dog, Lady.
Wade is survived by his mother, Lois Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte; brothers, Blaine (Irene) Chasing Hawk of Wyola, Mont., Leonard Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte and Ed (Danielle) Chasing Hawk of Aberdeen; sister, Connie Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte; nephews, Kyle Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte, C.J. Pesicka of Timber Lake, Dustin Ward of Eagle Butte and Robby Chasing Hawk of Aberdeen; nieces, Jaymie Gonzales of Aberdeen and Markata (Wayne) Maynard; great-nephews, Lamon, Cecil, Ramsey and Jamerson Maynard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Chasing Hawk; brothers, Ben and Justin Chasing Hawk; and grandparents, Paul and Esther Chasing Hawk and James and Lillian (Clown) Makes Trouble.
