Funeral services for Claude Lawrence “C.L.” Maynard, 47, of Ridgeview, were held Monday, March 31, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Father Dan Juelfs officiating.
Burial followed at the Mossman Cemetery under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Claude Lawrence Maynard III was born July 12, 1966, to Ronald Wayne Maynard and Mary Lu Rousseaux in Eagle Butte. C.L. entered the spirit world on March 25, 2014, in Toronto, S.D., where he had been living for the past year.
C.L. went to school at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte until first grade. He then moved to Sturgis where he attended Brown High School. C.L. then moved to Denver, Colo., where he earned his GED. He went to work for the Native American Rights Fund for 10 years before he decided to move back to Eagle Butte to pursue a life at whatever came his way. C.L. then moved once again to Swiftbird where he was employed at Pte Hca Ka (Buffalo program) for several years, also working as a ranch hand for several local ranchers. He was a master of all trades, most notably as an exceptional mechanic and had great artistic abilities.
C.L. is survived by his father, Ronald Wayne Maynard; his brothers, Wayne Lawrence Maynard, Preston Theodore (Lisa) Maynard and Justin Maynard; his sisters, Annette Marie Herren, Kelly Michelle (David) Chavez and Cheri Maynard; his step-daughter, Haylea (Cody) Rolf and step-granddaughter, Cailyn Rolf; nieces, Kimberly, Ayanna, Regina, Valera, Laca, Rose and Alissa; great-nieces, Emman Malaya, Icesis and Scarlett; nephews, Tylor, Marcelo and Marcus; great-nephew, Urijah; along with numerous other friends and relative too numerous to name.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lu Rousseaux; grandparents, Theadore and Ruth Rosseau and Claude and Valera Maynard; aunts and uncles, Jr. and Lehla Rousseau, Ann Rousseau, Bob Rousseau, Rick Eberhard, Buster Maynard, Richard Maynard, Denise White Eyes and Wayne Ducheneaux; nephew, Lorenzo Wanbli Chavez; and numerous other friends and relatives.
