Post 4 auxiliary holds meeting, stuffs 5,000 eggs

The April meeting of American Legion Post 4 Auxiliary was called to order by president Jan Sayler. Elsie Wohl led the group in prayer and they recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. Carol Lehrkamp made the motion to accept the minutes as read and Pat Fuhrman seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Jan Wales gave the treasurer’s report. Bills were presented. Kayla Boysen made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay the bills and Francis Kraft seconded the motion. Motion carried. Jan Wales reported that membership is at 153 and the goal is 162.
In new business, it was announced that the convention is June 19 through 22 in Pierre and the district meeting is April 7 in Hosmer. Anyone interested in going should contact Jan Sayler. Beth Vander Wal, district president, is asking for the annual reports to be turned in by April 15. The blood drive is April 21 and Francis Kraft will schedule people to bring cookies and juice.
Four girls applied for Girls State. The Mobridge auxiliary will send Chelsy Hoffman and Haley Filler, Rotary will sponsor Lindy Hoisington, and the Pollock Legion Auxiliary will send Sadie Pollock.
The Pollock Auxiliary has invited us to their noon salad luncheon on April 26. Discussion was held on serving a lunch on Memorial Day after the program at the cemetery for the Legion’s birthday party. Kayla Boysen and Alvina Dobler will bring ideas to the next meeting. Alvina Dobler and Elsie Wohl reported that new wreaths are needed for the cemetery.
The Beef ‘n Fun Day Breakfast on Main event was discussed. Members were asked to bring ideas to the next meeting. The group will also plan the May birthday party at Golden LivingCenter, judge poppy posters and pick scholarship winners at the May meeting.
The March community service project was helping with the Senior Citizen’s transportation fundraiser. The auxiliary helped prepare and serve the meal. Donna Sherwood chaired the poems and essay project at the school. First place will receive $5, second place $3, and third place $2. The casino night planned for March 29 by the Friends of Scherr-Howe has been cancelled.
After the meeting, the group filled 5,000 eggs for the Mobridge Chamber’s Easter egg hunt.
