Lady Tigers win Big Dakota golf title

By Jay Davis

The Lady Tigers teed off the new season by becoming conference champions. Mobridge-Pollock used a team score of 294 to win the Big Dakota Conference Golf Tournament in Chamberlain on Thursday.
“It was fun to go out and get a victory out of the gate,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “Our veteran golfers did well, all things considered. We really just hopped onto the course.”
The Lady Tigers’ 294 team total was well ahead of runner-up Chamberlain at 321 and third-place Winner at 324.
Chelsy Hoffman and Emily Dale were tied for the lead after nine holes, but settled for finishing second and third, respectively. Hoffman shot 45-46-91 for second, while Dale shot 45-50-95 for third.
Brigitte Byrd of Chamberlain took advantage of the home course to win the individual conference title. After an opening round 48, Byrd came back to fire a 42 and edge Hoffman by one stroke.
Miranda Eisemann made it three Lady Tigers in the top six by shooting 58-50-108 and leading the second five.
The Lady Tiger newcomers finished in the front half of the second ten. Lily Miner shot 64-56-120 for 12th, Grace Jensen shot 66-68-134 for 15th and Cayla Hintz shot 67-69-136 for 16th.
“Some of our younger golfers had not played 18 holes and did amazing, really.”

The Lady Tigers got to see some of the best golfers in the state when they teed off in the Parkston Invitational in Mitchell on Friday.
The Lady Tigers golfed against Parkston, Sioux Falls Christian and AA schools Aberdeen Central, Pierre, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Spearfish, Yankton and Mitchell.
The three Mobridge-Pollock players shot relatively close scores. Dale shot 53-43-96 and took 25th. Hoffman shot 46-52-98 for 28th and Eisemann shot 48-51-99 for 33rd.
“Friday’s meet was stiff competition, yet our girls hung in there well,” said Weisbeck. “Finishing in the middle of the pack was big considering most of the competition was AA schools.”
Maybe more important was getting an early look at Lakeview Golf Course, where this year’s state tournament will be played.
“It was nice to get to know the course again as it has been since 2012 that we played there. Emily really had a nice back nine 43 to lead the Tigers.”
Sydney Bormann of Parkston won medalist honors with an even par 72. Runner-up Karissa Guthrie of Pierre shot a 75.
Pierre won the team title with a 333. Parkston was second at 344 and Yankton shot 358 for third.
“It was fun watching the girls find their games again and compete at a high level,” said Weisbeck.
The Lady Tigers get a little time off to tighten up their games before hosting the Mobridge-Pollock Invitational at Oahe Hills Golf Course next Thursday.
