Wakpala trumps McIntosh in 15B first round match

Wakpala extinguished McIntosh 79-59 in the first round of the District 15B tournament at Scherr-Howe Arena in Mobridge on Monday.

The Sioux ran away from the Tigers with a 25-12 burst in the third quarter.

Lance Yellow Earrings led Wakpala with 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Carlin Mellette registered a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double. Teddy Iron Cloud and Cassidi Weinstein joined them in double figures with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Kyle Mollman led McIntosh with a game-high 23 points. Conrad Arnold scored 17 and Bradyn Beer scored 12.

District 15B action resumes on Thursday. Wakpala will take on number one seed Dupree at 7 p.m. Two seed Timber Lake and three seed Tiospaye Topa will play the nightcap. The District 15B championship game is slated for Friday at 8:30 p.m.
