The Lady Tigers could not keep up with the favorites, but played well enough for a comfortable second-place finish at the Region 3A Golf Tournament at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell on Tuesday.
“It was fun to bring home hardware,” said coach Jason Weisbeck.
Parkston dominated the meet with a team score of 359. Along with Sydney Bormann taking medalist honors and Sydney Weber taking second, all five Parkston players earned top 10 finishes.
The Lady Tigers earned three top 10 finishes and just missed a fourth for a team score of 401. The Bridge City girls finished 28 strokes ahead of third-place Winner.
Chesly Hoffman led Mobridge-Pollock with a 92 and a third-place finish.
“It as nice to see Chelsy play more in line with her potential,” said Weisbeck.
Miranda Eisemann shot 99 for seventh place. Aundrea Kramer shot 103 and took ninth. Emily Dale just missed the top 10 with an 11th-place 107. With the team qualifying, Cayla Hintz will get her first state meet experience. Hintz shot 142 and finished in 29th place.
Bormann dominated the course and the field to win the region title with an 80. Weber finished seven strokes back at 87.
Brigitte Byrd of Chamberlain in fifth and Liz Jankauskas of Winner in the eighth were the only players outside Parkston and Mobridge-Pollock to earn top 10 finishes.
Tatum Mendoza of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte will play at state after taking 18th with a 115.
The Lady Tigers and the rest of the field will tee off on Monday and Tuesday at the Girls State A Golf Tournament. This year’s tourney is being played at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
“I sure hope we can have all the girls clicking on Monday and Tuesday,” said Weisbeck. “Spearfish is a nice course and they all have the potential to score well there. It would be fun to bring home some more hardware.”
