Library prepares for summer with two reading programs

A. H. Brown Public Library is launching two summer reading programs, one for young adults and one for those in preschool through age 3.
“This is the first time we are holding a young adult program and are very excited to be able to offer it,” library director Karla Bieber said. “Our young adult board has been very instrumental in putting it together.”
The young adult program is called “Spark a Reaction.” It will run from June 16 through July 16. It is designed for participants ages 13 through 18. Each will receive a bingo card that will be completed through the crafts and activities of the program. Participants can complete more than one card but must choose different activities. All books and materials must be age-appropriate. Library staff must verify completion of the activities. Completed bingo cards will be turned in and a drawing will be held for gift certificates.
The younger children will participate in a program called “Fizz, Boom, Read!” It starts June 11 and ends July 8. Participants will play a game once daily, either from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 1:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Library dollars will be awarded each time a reading goal is reached, and participants can redeem them at the library store on June 18, June 25, July 2 and July 8.
Early registration is not required. The library can be reached at 845-2808.
