JAY DAVIS: Summer schedules released

As promised last week, the summer baseball and softball schedules for the Mobridge teams are in print for those of you looking to enjoy a summer’s evening at the ballpark.

If you missed it, the Mobridge Cardinals’ schedule is on page 2B under the story about the Bridge City nine winning their home opener against Northville on Sunday.

Saying not too many folks made it to the game would be an understatement. It is easy to tell that the grand old game of baseball has fallen out of favor here in Mobridge.

I could have a lot to say on this subject, but I short-sheeted myself in this week’s paper. Ball Five has a small strike zone this game.

So I’ll get right to the point. Baseball is making a comeback here in Mobridge. With all of the young men playing for Teeners, Midgets and Peewee teams, there is talk of American Legion baseball soon becoming a reality for the first time in a few years.

The home dates, with starting times, are right there on the schedules. The Cardinals have five more home dates. There are four girls’ softball and six Little League baseball doubleheaders coming, along with the Peewee league tournament. The Teeners have just two home dates, but their schedule will grow and grow in the upcoming seasons.

Mark a game or two on your calendar and mark them with red ink. Let’s start making Legion Memorial Field and its sister youth fields summer destinations once again.
