Locals win at Days of 1910 Rodeo

Dillon Ducheneaux of Mobridge used this 69-point ride to take third place in saddle bronc riding at the Days of 1910 Rodeo. The annual rodeo was held in Timber Lake on Saturday and Sunday.

The Days of 1910 Rodeo in Timber Lake drew cowboys from and far and wide, but that did not stop the locals. Four area athletes won events and a handful of others collected checks for placing.
Deon Dorsey of Isabel won the calf roping title with a time of 9.0 seconds. Dorsey earned $743 for his effort. Dustin Entzel of Killdeer, N.D., was second at 9.8 seconds.
Laura Hunt of Ridgeview won a big check worth $977 for first place in ladies breakaway roping. Hunt used a quick time of 2.3 seconds to edge Jenny Belkham of Blunt.
John Hoven of McLaughlin was the quickest roper among the senior men. Hoven looped his calf in 3.2 seconds to secure $641. Scott Lammers of Hermosa was second, while Jake Longbrake of Dupree was third.
Local cowboy T.C. Frederick (present address not listed) held off an all-local field of winners to win the bull riding title. Frederick used a ride of 81 to win $681. Timber Lake’s C.J. Pesicka was second with an 80-point ride. Dayton Spiel of Parade finished third.
Mobridge cowboy Dillon Ducheneaux used a 69-point ride to take third in saddle bronc riding and collect $369. Eric Gewecke of Red Owl won the title and $563 with a 73-point ride.
Sydney Maher of Timber Lake tore to third in barrel racing. Her time of 16.26 seconds was good for $633. Taylor Engessor of Spearfish raced the course in 15.95 seconds for first place and $857.
Mound City cowboy Pearson Wientjes took fourth in calf roping. He had a time of 10.5 seconds and won $538. His dad Ross joined him in team roping. The Wientjes boys tied for fifth with a time of 8.1 seconds and won $237 each. Jesse Clement of Ridgeview and Jess Dale of Timber Lake took fourth with a time of 6.8 seconds to win $416 each.
Bailey Peterson of Parade tied for fifth in ladies breakaway roping where a time of 3.0 seconds was worth $404.
Other event winners include: Jake Smith of Whitewood in bareback riding; Lacey Tech of Fairfax and Georgia Diez of Phoenix, Ariz., in a tie in goat tying; and Drew Gartner of Killdeer and Paul Griemsman of Piedmont in team roping.
The Winner Elk Rodeo was being staged at the same time. A pair of locals won events there too.
Krystal Marone of Isabel had a big day. She won the barrel racing title with a time of 16.2 seconds to earn $693. She added a fifth-place tie in goat tying to add $35 to her rodeo winnings.
Jesse Clement matched Marone by winning one event and placing in another. Clement won the calf roping with a time of 11.0 seconds to win $490. He and Dale tied for seventh in team roping for $112 each.
Doug Lawrence of Timber Lake placed sixth in calf roping to pick up $84.
Elk Rodeo champions include: Ty Kenner of Wood Lake, Neb., in bareback riding; Lane Gambill of Johnstown, Neb., in bull riding; Macy Fuller of Wittman, Neb., in goat tying; Brooke Nelson of Philip in ladies breakaway roping; Cole Hindman of Belvidere in saddle bronc riding; Lyle Wilcox of Red Owl in senior men’s breakaway roping; Sam Olson of Buffalo and Simon Quackenbush of Circle, Mont., in a tie in steer wrestling; Tucker McDaniel of Midland and Jade Nelson of Philip in team roping; Hanna Brown of Faith and Rory Brown of Edgemont in mixed team roping; and Daryl Hammerstrom of Davis, Robert Devitt of Harrisburg and Gerald Sorsenson of Canton in team penning.
The SDRA will focus its eyes on the area this weekend. The Isabel Rodeo & Celebration is the only rodeo on the schedule. The Isabel Rodeo is Saturday and Sunday.
