The 2014-15 Mobridge-Pollock sports season will be officially underway when the golfing Tigers host the Mobridge-Pollock Invite at Oahe Hills Golf Course on Monday.
The Tigers will tee off against Winner and Aberdeen Central JV at 10 a.m.
“It should be fun,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “We have a smaller team this year, but we have nice mix of veterans and younger players.”
Senior David Jensen will lead the team. He returns looking to earn his fifth straight trip to the state tournament. Jensen’s best outings last year were second place at the Big Dakota Conference Meet, fourth at the home meet and seventh in Groton. He took eighth place in the Region 3A Tournament after finishing 11th in the pre-region.
The rest of the team has less varsity experience. Senior Tanner Jerome finished 10th in the home meet. Senior Joey Heil took 11th in the Big Dakota and 18th in the pre-region. Freshman Stone Jensen finished 24th in the pre-region.
Also hitting the links this fall are senior Kenny Helm, freshmen Dalton Faehnrich and Zach Faehnrich and eighth-grader Noah Fried, plus a small handful of sixth graders have joined the program in Isaac Aman, Jack Faehnrich and Gabe Jerome.
After hosting Monday’s meet, the rest of the varsity schedule is on the road, including a trip to play in Pierre on Aug. 26 that was just added to the schedule on Tuesday. The Tigers will play invites in Milbank, Aberdeen and Groton. The Big Dakota Conference Meet is in Pierre. The Region 3A Tournament and pre-region are in Mitchell. The State A Golf Tournament is in Hot Springs.
