The Tiger golfers opened the season by handling Winner and Aberdeen Central JV at the Mobridge-Pollock Invite at Oahe Hills Golf Course on Monday.
The Tigers shot a team score of 351 to beat Aberdeen Central JV by 26 strokes and Winner by 35.
“Overall it was a really fun day,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “It was great to see our boys have some early success.”
David Jensen shot an opening round 38, came back with a 42 and won going away with an 80. Stone Jensen was second with a 41-44-85.
“It was fun to see David get a victory,” said Weisbeck. “Stone gained some extra success and confidence with his game.”
Five Tigers finished in the top 10 out of a 21-player field. Tanner Jerome shot 44-46-90 for sixth, Dalton Faehnrich shot 49-47-96 for eighth and Joey Heil shot 47-49-96 for ninth.
Led by Scott Albrecht shooting 87 and taking third, Aberdeen Central had three top 10 finishes. Ethan Villander took fifth and Derek Hunrad took 10th.
Two Winner players earned a spot in the top 10. Lucas Jedlichi shot 89 for fourth and Sam Hossle shot 93 for seventh.
Three more Tigers played in the opener. Noah Fried shot 110, Kenny Helm shot 114 and Zach Faehnrich shot 118.
“For the first meet I was extremely pleased with how they played as a team,” said Weisbeck. “I sure hope we can build upon that in the future.”
The Tigers get to try to show some improvement on Thursday when they travel to the Milbank Invite. Next Thursday, the Tigers will host the Mobridge-Pollock JV Invite at Oahe Hills Golf Course.
