Even though there probably wasn’t anyone praising our recent stretch of frigid weather, there was no denying that it was perfect for baking. Like many, Mobridge resident Ashley Wientjes, employment specialist at the Department of Social Services, looks forward to this time of the year as one that allows her to carry on holiday baking traditions with her family.

Jamison Steckler was on record-setting relay team

Jamison Toby Steckler, the son of Toby Ray and Pamela Kay (Bauer) Steckler, was born on Sept. 17, 2002, at Audubon County Hospital in Audubon, Iowa, and died Dec. 10, 2016, in an auto accident in rural Cass County, Iowa, at the age of 14 years, two months and 23 days.

Gavin Steckler was sports, music loving boy

Gavin Michael Steckler, the son of Toby Ray and Pamela Kay (Bauer) Steckler, was born on May 11, 2005, at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa, and died Dec. 10, 2016, in an auto accident in Cass County, Iowa, at the age of 11 years, six months and 29 days.

Anna Hagen was avid card player with competitive spirit

Funeral services for Anna Hagen, 93, of Mobridge, were held Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at the United Parish in Timber Lake. Burial was in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Anna Elizabeth (Sandquist) Hagen, “Grannie Annie,” passed away on Dec. 14, 2016, at Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge.

Roy Thompson had ‘get ‘er done’ mentality

Funeral services for Roy Thompson, 94, of Mobridge were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at the Family Worship Center in Mobridge. Burial was at the Mobridge City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Roy Thompson passed away peacefully on Dec. 15, 2016.

Taller teams beat Tigers with inside presence

The Tigers learned that a lack of height can be a huge detriment over the week as they were defeated 51-37 by Herreid/Selby Area in the Mobridge Rotary Basketball Classic on Saturday before dropping a 58-46 game to Sully Buttes on Monday. Both games were played on the home court at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gym.
